Poll Workers and Voters give the ES&S ExpressVote XL “Two Thumbs up!”

March 29, 2019

Congratulations are in order for the Village of Port Chester NY and their successful first-time use of the Election Systems & Software (ES&S) ExpressVote XL!

On March 19, election officials in Port Chester wrapped up a successful election thanks in part to their new ES&S ExpressVote XL. Poll workers and registered voters are quoted as describing their Election Day experience as secure, easy, fast and just plain cool!

“From the moment I was shown the election voting machines, up to and including the day of the Village election and post-election tabulation, the experience was top notch,” Village of Port Chester Clerk, Janusz Richards said.

Secure.

Everyone knows security is a cornerstone of the ES&S product development process. The ExpressVote XL™ operating software was designed with security access controls to limit and detect access. The unit’s hardware provides multiple locations to securely lock and seal all critical access points to prevent unauthorized use of the system. The ExpressVote XL uses a paper card to activate a voting session, then prints a summary of the voter’s selections on that same card to create a verifiable paper record.

“Not only are voters able to verify their choices on the XL, election officials can audit the election against the paper records,” ES&S Regional Sales Manager, Rob Wiebusch said.

Easy.

Port Chester election officials allowed 30 minutes for setup and opening — every unit was up on time. The ExpressVote XL’s intuitive design offers easy-to-follow instructions for election officials, poll workers and voters. There is no complicated technology to manage or program.

Richards said, “The ExpressVote XL voting machine worked flawlessly … the overall experience was reported as overwhelmingly positive. People were surprised by the ease of casting their ballots on easy to read, interactive machines.”

Fast.

Besides the quick open and close process, poll workers in Port Chester commented how much quicker the voting process went compared to when they used to have to fill in ovals.

Just Plain Cool.

Election officials across the country agree that one of the coolest aspects of having an ExpressVote XL in their jurisdiction is that everyone votes on the same machine. The ExpressVote XL has received high praise for the inclusiveness it brings to the voting experience. The XL can be configured in several ways to serve every voter as a fully-compliant ADA voting solution during early voting and on Election Day — that means EVERYONE votes in the same private and independent manner.

Last but not least, with the ES&S ExpressVote XL, there is no need for a bunch of extra stuff like voting booths, pens, preprinted ballots, etc.

“I loved the fact that the ballots used by the ExpressVote XL voting machine are blank and no preprinting of ballots is required, saving the Village on printing costs and storing of the unused ballots,” Richards said.

Congratulations to all!
